BUILDING BETTER RELATIONSHIPS

“It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried.”

Muslim counselor

"Being listened to by someone who understands makes it possible for persons to listen more accurately to themselves, with greater empathy towards their own experiences, their own vaguely felt meanings.

- Carl Rogers

My name is Ahmed Tomal, and I am the founder of Tawfiq Therapy, a private counselling and psychotherapy practice in East London, offering face-to-face counselling, as well as online and telephone therapy across the UK.

At Tawfiq Therapy, my aim is not simply to help you cope, but to support you in developing a deeper understanding of yourself. Over time, this self-awareness can bring greater emotional balance, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of inner calm that extends beyond the therapy room.

I specialise in providing counselling for Muslims who are experiencing anxiety, anger, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, or identity-related concerns. I work in a way that is culturally and religiously sensitive, while remaining open, respectful, and experienced in working with individuals and couples from all backgrounds.

I am a BACP-accredited counsellor and psychotherapist and hold an MSc in Psychology. I offer both individual counselling and couples counselling, supporting clients with a wide range of mental health and relational concerns, including stress, low mood, communication difficulties, trust issues, and life transitions.

My approach is grounded, reflective, and non-judgemental. I provide a safe and confidential space where you can explore your past experiences, current challenges, and emotional patterns, at a pace that feels right for you. I believe that one of the most important relationships we can work on is the relationship we have with ourselves and that meaningful change often begins there.

If you are looking for a Muslim therapist in East London, or a qualified counsellor offering online therapy in the UK, I invite you to contact me to arrange an initial assessment session. This gives us an opportunity to discuss what you are struggling with and to see whether working together feels like a good fit.

My approach

I am a BACP-registered integrative counsellor. I believe we are all unique which necessitates that therapy is different for everyone. As an integrative therapist, I strive to provide a tailored approach to individual counselling. I respect and value my client’s experience, I work with compassion and believe therapy is an empowering space where my clients can explore their feelings and work through their emotions to gain valuable insight.

How integrative counselling works

My integrative method of working draws on concepts from the psychodynamic and person-centred models of therapy. I put therapeutic relationship at the centre of the therapeutic work and my approach helps my clients create a new perspective, find ways of relating to internal conflicts and achieve a balance.

Many people feel anxious coming to counselling for the first time and worry they won’t know what to say. I provide the space to talk and, together with my clients, we explore what brought them to counselling, what’s happening in their life, their needs, their challenges, what changes they would like to make and what is holding them back. Therapy enables us to make different choices through understanding where we are at and exploring our thoughts and feelings.

My practice is safe, confidential, and non-judgmental. I offer individual, face-to-face and online therapy sessions. As a client you get to decide if you want short-term therapy (between 6-12 sessions) or long-term/open-ended therapy sessions.

I work with clients (16+) from different ethnic backgrounds. The first session allows my client to find out how we might work together, and what they want out of the therapy.
